Attitude is everything…or so they say.
Whatever your current attitude is towards achieving a goal, it usually carries an underlying message or two from your subconscious mind.
If you are down, negative, or frustrated most of the time, a part of you may have given up on believing that you will get what you want. And suppressing any of your emotions only seems to further spiral you into the pit of despair, especially if you have been setting goal after goal most of your adult life.
On the other hand, if you are relatively upbeat, positive, and happy, it means you still have hope and stand firm in the possibility of successfully reaching your goals—regardless of how long you’ve been striving towards it. It also could mean that at the moment there isn’t much drama going on in your interpersonal relationships.
The word ‘attitude’ derived an adverse connotation in adolescence when someone told us we needed to ‘change our attitude’. That basically meant that some adult or authority figure wanted us to adjust our mood and/or our actions to either match theirs or the environment we were in at the time. Also, you weren’t usually given the opportunity to provide any input into the situation. You either marched along and changed your attitude or suffered the consequences for not doing so.
Try to keep in mind that as a kid, you had a great attitude that worked for you. You were lit up by life and enthusiastic about everything. Unfortunately, the adults in your life curbed or squashed your enthusiasm (aka a cheerful or optimistic attitude), so that you would fit in and function in a way that was most efficient for society and in your home environment.
When you set and proceed toward a goal that does not bring you joy, old issues immediately surface from your subconscious mind into your conscious mindset.
There is nothing right or wrong about attitude. Attitude is just a frame of mind…positive or negative…easy or hard…going with the flow or kicking and screaming. And despite everything that’s happening around you, your attitude or how you approach something is the one thing you have complete control over. Some part of you already knows that if you don’t love what you are doing, then you won’t stick with it for very long.
As an adult, an attitude adjustment simply means that you give yourself permission to stop doing things that don’t bring you joy. That in turn creates the space needed to revert to the wonderment of a kid who lives in a land of possibilities and is key to allowing the universe to shower you with its blessings in all areas of your life.
